Muhammad is the prophet and founder of the religion of Islam. He was born in Mecca, in present-day Saudi Arabia, in the year 570 CE. Muslims believe that he received divine revelations from Allah (God) through the angel Gabriel, which were later recorded in the holy book of Islam, the Quran.
Muhammad spent much of his life spreading the message of Islam, calling people to worship one God and to live a life of righteousness and compassion. He also established the first Islamic community in Medina, which later became the model for Islamic governance.
